Specific information sharing
In some circumstances additional information may be presented to volunteers:
- Your Email address, or street address.
- Your phone number.
- Your IP address.
- Your geo-spatial coordinates.
For example: If you have listed yourself in the locations database a Site Surveyor will be
able to view your street address and phone number in order to assist you with a site
survey.
Whenever possible, we will explain what information will be exposed if enabling
a feature that could change your privacy status. If you see an area of the website that does not
explicitly define how your information will be used, please contact the privacy officer with
your concerns and the issue will be clarified, and rectified as appropriate.
If you see something you are not sure of, or are concerned about, contact the privacy officer
above and we will rectify the problem immediately.
If your concerns are not resolved in a reasonable amount of time, you can also file a
complaint with the Privacy Commisioner of Canada.
Selling of your data.
We don't sell data to anyone. We do not use your data for commercial purposes.
We also disable advertising for any user's logged into our website, to prevent collection
of personal data by third parties, such as Google.
Note: Google Ads will reveal your IP address, user agent and the page you were visiting to Google.
Disclosure to law enforcement.
All requests for release of personally identifying information must be served by court order. It's really that simple.
Retention
We maintain system logs for web and authentication requests indefinitely. This data is used for security purposes.
We maintain account information (such as your login profile) for as long as you use your account. We will remove your personally identifying information
from your account profile upon request, which will render your account inactive and unusable. The user_id and username of your
account profile will be preserved for database integrity.
Communication
From time to time you will receive communications from the BC Wireless project, it's volunteers, and (possibly anonymous) members
of the public.
This may include News Letters, system announcements/notifications, and inquiries.
