Network and Coordination Policies
The following policies govern the use of the BC Wireless network and describe what we expect
from our members.
- General Policy. The B.C. Wireless Network, a bleeding-edge Communications network, exists to provide peer-to-peer communications between it's members and to encourage an open
environment in which community members can improve their communication and technical skills for the betterment of all and in the public good.
Illegal activities, warez, hax0r activity and other things that cause an un-due burden on the network may result in your being barred access. Please respect our rules. Thanks.
- Frequencies and coordination. One of the B.C. Wireless Network Society's efforts is to work with members of the community, both commercial, non-profit, academic and
independent, to effeciently utilize the license-exempt radio spectrum in a manner that benefits all members of society.
All BC Wireless Members, and members of the general community who use unlicensed radio bands are encouraged to be involved in resolving interference and technical issues.
We do not want the unlicensed ISM bands turning into garbage. Do your part and help us all prosper by working with other members of the community including your competition.
- Network Peering.
We believe in a policy of Open Peering, in that any other network may peer with us freely, provided that:
- The other network does not tamper, alter or prohibit traffic flow from any other peered network.
- The other network will report, in a timely manner, all abusive, security and related incidents that may prompt such blockage.
- The other network will, in a timely manner, acknowledge and deal with any abuse, security or related matters that WE may report to them.
Our official network peering policy is available from CommunityNetworkPeeringAgreement
As a general rule we will establish a peering agreement with any other entity, group or individual who agrees to peer
according to the terms of our Community Network Peering Agreement, but we reserve the right to deny a peering relationship for various
reasons including 1) lack of capacity, 2) security concerns, 3) other reasons that we will disclose.
- Open Proxies, Virus infected hosts and other "security" threats. BCWNS is a strong supporter of the PicoPeering agreement which prohibits the abitrarey blocking of
network traffic that is not destined, or originating from our own systems. That being said, we will block ANY infected or compromised host from utilizing
BC Wireless infrastructure, and we may publish a "black list" of known infected systems for others to do the same.
If you are infected, or run an open proxy, or other system that compromises the integrity of the network. Fix it.
