The B.C. Wireless Observatory is a survey of Wireless Networks throughout British Columbia, and beyond. Information from the observatory can be used to plot spectrum density and aid in network planning, identify network capacity in given areas, analyse trends in service and of course, to find a place to hop onto the Internet

How did you find all these networks?
The Observatory is populated with data uploaded by so called "war drivers" and "net stumblers". B.C. Wireless publishes an Android Application that scans for Wifi networks and uploads found networks along with geoposition information into the observatory. Converter software is also known to exist that transforms third party data formats (such as GPX) into our primary data format.
Hey, my network is listed. I don't want that!
No worries - let us know the BSSID (or MAC address) of the network, along with the ESSID (network name) and where abouts the network is located, and your contact information. We will flag the network as being invisible.
The map is really slow / my web browser crashes.
In some regions the amount of networks present may cause your web browser to become unresponsive. We are working on optimizing the map's performance, but you may want to increase your zoom level or narrow down your search parameters to reduce the number of results retrieved from the database.
Where can I get an iPhone/iPad/Blackberry version of your app?
As far as we know (please correct us if we're wrong!) iOS and Blackberry OS do not have the necessary support to build a wireless survey app.
I have some questions or ideas about the Observatory
Wiki pages about specific networks and nodes
We have linked individual network node listings and Wireless Network names in the observatory with their own Wiki pages.
New BSSID (that is, individual network nodes) network pages should use the WirelessObservatory/BSSIDNodeTemplate; and
Network Name pages (ESSIDs) should use the WirelessObservatory/NetworkNamesTemplate.
