Voice over IP ("VOiP") refers to the use of traditional voice telephony using Internet Technologies.
VoIP comes in many flavours:
- Commercial Voice over IP such as Shaw's Home phone service, Vonage, and independent non-dominant telephony companies.
- Proprietory voice systems such as Skype.
- Internet Standard Voice systems.
British Columbia Wireless Network Society is an active proponent of Voice over IP, and is a founder of the InternetTelephonyUsersAssociation (Australia) and developer of http://www.e164.org.
