Atheros is the chipset provider of many 802.11g/b/a products. There is Linux, *BSD and commercial support for Atheros based cards, unlike Broadcom.
Several Mini-PCI radios exist that can be used with a WRAP or Soekris boards. Mini-PCI is more efficient than regular PCMCIA adapters.
Atheros radios can be used with RoofNet for meshing, and 802.11g / 802.11a backhaul links. The receive sensitivity on the cards is fairly high and they are well known for good performance.
